HCBT-Horizon Institute of Applied Science & Technology (HCBT-IAST) a subsidiary of Horizon group provides students, the educational build up to obtain professional and post graduate level qualifications. Furthermore, a range of special short term programmes, and work based industrial exposure training programmes in various fields are available at technology education & vocational training divisions.

HCBT engages in developing technical & vocational education & training sector to produce high quality competent technicians and technologists to suite the local & global industrial demand. Horizon Institute of Applied Science & Technology with the vocational education centre provides courses of studies in Engineering Technology, Bio Recourse Technology, Health and Applied Management Study fields. In addition, it provides training in special social needs, planning & curriculum development and professional training. It provides work based training opportunities & OJT monitoring & tertiary education research. HCBT-IAST provides foreign language studies and special tailor made training programmes and distance learning/ e-learning programmes, leading to the award of diploma/ advanced diploma, graduate diplomas/ degrees and post graduate degree programme as well. The research & consultancy department of the institute is operated with well experienced locally & internationally qualified researchers and professionals to assist with emerging needs.

HORIZON – Institute of Applied Science & Technology with its vocational education centre as a quality tertiary education promotor provides quality training for both Sri Lankan, and foreign students coming from South Asia and other regions of the world. Horizon Institute of Applied Science & Technology of HCBT’s, main focus lies on Advance Quality Training through Work Based Training in the Industry. It produces competent & innovative technicians and technologists to face easily in emerging economies and rapid growth of industrialization and challenges of Technology development.
It also introduced “HCBT-Industrial Technology Training Hub through Work Based Training/ Learning mode (HCBT-WBTH)” to perform various functions related to the technology education, research and vocational technology sector development with Public-Private (PPP) organizations.

A major target of the institute is capacity building of future labour force in magnitude of vocations to change the mentality of the labour force to keep updated with the upcoming developments in change management.
HCBT has been registered with the Tertiary and Vocational Education Commission (TVEC), Sri Lanka under registration No. P01/0498, as a training providing institute and it represent Sri Lanka for the European Association of Institutes for Vocational Training (EVBB) and also maintain training & research link with the Partner Institution of EVBB. Furthermore, it has developed extensive academic & research collaboration with Asian and European universities as well.

HCBT-IAST focuses its education & training programmes under the Sustain Lanka Research Network (SLRN) in par with developing innovation & research culture with International Research Societies. HCBT-WBTH has been established closed relationship with Archipelagos Institute of Marine Conservation (Coastal and Marine Bio-resource Conservation Research), Greece, and Pushchino State Institute of Natural Sciences, Moscow (Training through Research).

Main objective of HCBT-SLRN is to promote innovation & research culture in tertiary education system and transfer it to the young generation in order to upgrade their professionalism with research skills.
