Bachelor of Information Technology (BIT) Is offered by the UNIVERSITY OF COLOMBO SCHOOL OF COMPUTING. Over 40,000 candidates have enrolled for the BIT programme since its inception in the year 2000.This degree is designed to produce qualified IT professionals through external mode and encourage students to obtain skills in commercial IT applications and in the usage of necessary tools. In addition, this degree also enables the opportunity to enter into a state university as it is very competitive to obtain such a degree in a state university.
Duration – 3 years minimum
- Level I – Diploma in Information Technology (DIT)will be awarded to a candidate who has obtained a pass or a minimum C grade for each course and passed all the continuous assessments in the First Year.
- Level II – Higher Diploma in Information Technology (HDIT) will be awarded to a candidate who has obtained a pass or a minimum C grade for each course and passed all the continuous assessments in the Second Year and has obtained the Diploma in Information Technology.
- Level III – Degree Certificate (BIT) will be awarded on successful completion of year 1, year 2 and year 3 examination.

- Pass G.C.E. O/L with minimum 6 simple passes including credits for Maths and English (Can be in one or multiple sittings).

- Pass G.C.E. O/L with minimum 3 credits including credits for Maths and English (Can be in one or multiple sittings).
- Pass G.C.E. (A/L) 3 passes in new syllabus or 4 passes in old syllabus (for main subjects) in any subject stream in ONE sitting.
