HCBT- INDUSTRIAL TECHNOLOGY WORK BASED TRAINING HUB-WBTH

Most of the VET standards for industrial sector are developed by the Ministry of Skill Development & Vocational Training in Sri Lanka. TVEC as an apex body accredits all VET based training providing institutions in Sri Lanka and accredits most of the VET courses separately, which training standards are developed and regulated by National Apprentice & Industrial Training Authority (NAITA) at national level with the assistance of the its NITAC committee (and sector skills committee). All other national institutions under the Ministry are major VET Training providers – DTET, VTA, NYC, UNIVOTEC, OCUSL, NIBM etc. and conduct NVQ based training programme. Unfortunately, majority of public & private sector VET providers are not capable to provide high-tech practical training due to financial constrains as most of the training equipment & machinery are high cost, and can’t be replace with modern technology applications.

HCBT-IAST a private tertiary education and training provider liaises with industries & other service sector organizations to develop the “Industrial Technology Work Based Training Hub” (WBTH) which leads the maximum utilization of industrial facilities and expertise for upgrade the quality of VET training.

The main target of HCBT is to train minimum of 1000-1500 students annually through Work Based Training mode from basic level of apprentice trainings to technology/ professional level training through WBTH.
